This year the 47th ASiT Annual Surgical Conference took place in Liverpool from the 3rd–5th March. The Nominees for the 2023 Association of Surgeons in Training Silver Scalpel Award were as follows:

Ms Tamara Kiernan - Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon - St. Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust – University of Liverpool
Mr Thomas Pearson – Colorectal – Broomfield Hospital
All six Consultants who were nominated for the award were in Attendance. The Winner of the 2023 Silver Scalpel Award was Ms Tamara Kiernan who was presented with the Award at this year’s Gala Dinner which was held at the World Museum in Liverpool.
Now in its 22nd iteration the prestigious Silver Scalpel Award sponsored by Swann-Morton, has played a vital part in recognising trainers who go the extra mile for their trainees and promote the highest standards of surgical training. Training goes hand in hand with providing excellent patient care, and Silver Scalpel winners also deliver an exemplary service to their patients, creating a positive clinical environment and learning culture for trainees.
